Troop News & Upcoming Events
Applying to Troop 126
Our troop holds several open house events for potential applicants to meet and experience Troop 126. These usually take place in November and December. Check our website for details when those months draw closer.
We accept applications for new scouts starting in December for possible onboarding the following March. The end of February is typically when Arrow of Light scouts bridge from the Cub Scouting program. Priority is given to those scouts who have earned their Arrow of Light or are bridging from a Cub Scout Pack.
We have a limited amount of openings each year. As such, not all applicants may be accommodated. We encourage you to pursue your love of Scouting either with Troop 126 or another troop in the area, such as Troop 2021G (San Ramon) and 36G (Danville). You can locate a Scouts BSA troop near you by clicking this link.
Troop 126 is meeting in-person at GRMS
(Throughout the school year) and at alternative locations outside of that.

Robotics Merit Badge – Robots are everywhere these days! In space, they help scientists learn about other planets. Deep in the ocean, they explore places where humans can’t go. On farms, they help plant and pick crops. In mines, they dig and move stuff without getting tired. And guess what? They’re in hospitals too! Robots can help doctors do very careful surgeries.
Factories also love robots because they can do the same job again and again without making mistakes. And robots don’t just work; they can also help in saving people. When someone is lost or stuck, robots can help find and rescue them.
The world of robots is big and exciting. Every day, people think of new ways to use robots to make life better. As time goes on, we’ll see even more robots doing amazing things.
What to bring:
Downloaded or printed Robotics Merit Badge Workbook to take notes, some sheets of plain paper to draw robot designs, pencil, eraser. Please review the questions in the workbook.

Intro to Snow Camping will be an introductory session to scout’s first-time experience of learning about snow camping before they advance to the Intermediate Snow Camping.
Scouts will leave for the destination Friday after school and spend two nights (Friday and Saturday) in a heated cabin for the weekend. On Saturday they will have a full day building a snow kitchen and various kinds of snow shelters, including snow cave, trench shelter, etc. There will be a snowshoe hike Sunday morning, before heading home Sunday afternoon.
Space is limited to 18 scouts due to the size of the cabin. No refunds after 1/28/25.

Pt. Reyes Backpacking Trip

Location: Pt. Reyes
Credit Towards: 2nd/1st Class, Adventure, Camping, Backpacking, Outdoor, Leave No Trace
Remarks: ADVANCED 3-day/2-night trip, 20+ miles, 3000+ ft elevation gain
Description:
These sites are super hard to get due to the amazing scenery, so consider this an EPIC ADVENTURE! This is a 3-day, 2-night trek, hiking 6 miles on Friday (school holiday!), 8 miles Saturday, 6 miles on Sunday, camping at Wildcat and Coast campsites with Troops 874 and 2021 (spots for T126 are limited). Overall 20+ miles of hiking and 3600 ft elevation gain along the bluffs overlooking the ocean in Pt. Reyes National Seashore, so this should NOT be your first backpacking trip.
The rewards are worth the effort for this trip. The beach is less than a five minute walk from both campsites. Elk and deer always entertain at Wildcat camp (we've actually seen a Bobcat here!). There's a large unique waterfall onto the beach 1-mile south of Wildcat camp and tide pools 1/3-mile from Coast camp (weather and tides permitting). We've counted over 100 banana slugs on one trip and found whale bones on the beach. We may also be able to enjoy a beach fire, so start planning skits!
This outing meets the requirements for:
- 2 nights camping/backpacking
- 2 breakfasts, 2/3 lunches on trail, 2 dinners - PERFECT for trail/backpacking requirements; must be coordinated with MBC prior (water is available, but pack in/pack out and no perishables)
- 1 trek for the Backpacking MB requirement 10: Using Leave No Trace principles, participate in at least 3 backpacking treks of at least 3 days each and at least 15 miles each, and using at least 2 different campsites on each trek. Carry everything you will need throughout the trek.
Paperwork due 2/28 to allow for patrol and meal planning!

Return: time and location TBD (time will be dependent on return hike from camp, scouts may elect to return to a fro yo location)
